At GHC-SCW, we support future health care professionals by offering learning experiences. We provide hands-on learning in real clinical settings for health care students. Whether you need student experiences, health care shadowing or clinical rotations, we offer opportunities at different study levels. Our programs will help you gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in your health care career.

Are you or someone you know interested in getting some hands-on experience in the health care field? Our Student Experience Inquiry form is here to help! This form is for:

  • Anyone who is 18 years or older, has graduated high school and is currently enrolled in a health care program
  • Program representatives who are looking to place their students to get experience
  • GHC-SCW employees who are willing to mentor students
  • GHC-SCW managers who are have already approved a student for a learning experience at GHC-SCW

This form ensures we provide the appropriate placement for students to give them the best learning experience for their education level. Check out the sections below for more information. All inquiries are subject to review and do not guarantee placement.

Level I Experience - Shadowing Only

  • Short shadowing experiences that are less than 20 hours long
  • Observation only
General Medical Departments Behavioral Health (BH) Requirements Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT ) Requirements Medical Imaging Requirements Eye Care Requirements Laboratory Professional Requirements
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and 18+ years old
  • Must be enrolled in a program
  • Must be enrolled in a program
  • Can be a pre-PT/OT student
  • Must be enrolled in a Radiography program
  • Must be enrolled in a MATC Opt Tech program or a student interested in the eye care fields
  • Must be enrolled in a Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant or Accredited MLT program

Level II Experience - Direct Supervision

  • Shadowing experience with the supervisor “at the elbow”. This is a method of clinical education or training where a student closely observes and learns from a health care professional during patient care activities. The student gains practical experience, asks questions and receives immediate feedback while respecting the patient’s privacy and safety.
  • Longer than Level I Experience (length depends on course of study) between 2-12 weeks long

  • Medical student rotations
  • Nurse Practitioner students
  • Physician Assistant students
  • Nurse Practitioner students
  • Behavioral Health Experience is 10-18 hours per week for a full semester
  • Must be enrolled in a PT/OT program
  • Can be done during or after first year of course work
  • Experience is 2-8 weeks long
  • Must be enrolled in a Radiography program
  • Experience is generally during a fall, spring or summer semester
  • Must be enrolled in a MATC Opt Tech program and going through clinical rotation
  • Must be enrolled in a Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant or Accredited MLT program

Level III Experience - Advanced Supervision

  • Advanced rotation with the potential of an individual clinic schedule
  • Can be longer than Level II Experience (length depends on course of study) between 12 weeks to 3 years long

  • Continuity Clinic Resident
  • Experience is 4 hours per week for 3 years
  • Intern, second year MSW, Counseling or Marriage and Family grad program
  • Experience is 20 hours per week for the full academic year
  • Post-course work
  • Experience is 40 hours per week for 8-12 week rotation
